How To Improve Your Personal Branding
If you want to build your presence online, you have to understand how to improve your personal branding. Some of you may be thinking “What Is Personal Branding?” and that it is all about having a professional looking blog, and other pages on your social media sites to look good. Well, that may be one step to helping improve your personal branding but today I will be sharing a few tips on how you can take it one step further and get more people to know you.
How To Improve Your Personal Branding – Using A Consistent Image
In the first step on learning how to improve your personal branding, you want to be using the same image on all the profile pages of your social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and so on. This is the first step that you should take as this helps to ensure that when people are exposed to you on the different social media, they will recognize you. If someone gets exposed to your content all over the web and they recognize you, you will gain instant credibility with them and they will see you as a model figure.
Be sure to also use proper images of yourself and not cartoons. Sure, some people can pass off by placing their profile pics as a cartoon such as Daegan Smith – but he is the “King of never calling a lead”. Where are you in your success? Are you where you want to be at right now? If not, don’t try to be fancy and making yourself look like a cartoon. A proper picture builds more credibility and trust with people that do not know you.
I would definitely recommend getting a professional shot of yourself done if you can afford it as this will definitely make you look “better” and you can also use these images for a very long time.
How To Improve Your Personal Branding – Using Colors
What I mean by using colors is having a consistent theme of colors around on all your pages. For example, if you check out my blog, my Facebook fanpage, and all my sites over the web – You will see a consistent theme in the color that I use. Red. Even my business cards are also in red because I want people to associate me with the color red.
In my personal opinion, red signifies passion to me and I want people to know that I am passionate in my business and what I do in this business. You can consider choosing a color to signify your values and use it as a consistent theme across all your marketing efforts, offline or online. This will help people to associate you with certain colors.
How To Improve Your Personal Branding – Using A “Catch Phrase”
This point will come under 2 subsections. Firstly giving yourself a title which you believe fits you best and your personality. In my case, I call myself the “Youth Social Networker” because I am young and I like to hang out on the social networks. However, you want to be careful such as in my case – I will not be a youth forever and I will eventually have to catch my “title”. You want to use something that is more general that can transcend through time.
A few other examples that I have seen are the SEO Networkers (Ray & Ferny if you don’t know who they are), The Network Dad (Ken Pickard) and a couple others. You do not need to give yourself a title but this will definitely help people create a better association with who you are and your mission.
Next, if having your own tag line. You can choose to put 3 words that represent who you are once again. Maybe it’s “Passion”, “Purpose”, “Health”… Any of these terms. Choosing 3 is a good number as people can easily remember it and find out more about you almost immediately. You can also choose to come up with one sentence about what your mission is all about.
Remember, that if you are implementing any of the strategies on how to improve your personal branding mentioned above, you have to be consistent. Consistency means always placing them where ever you appear. That means always using the color, the catch phrases so that people will ultimately associate those with you.
A question you may ask in how to improve your personal branding is whether you can change your titles/mission statements and that is a definite YES. Do not be tied down by these minor details although they will eventually help with your personal branding. Always remember to focus on providing value and people will remember you.

What a wonderful outline of how to brand yourself correctly. One of the pet peeves I have is when people do not use a picture of themselves. It’s all about getting to know each other and a picture is so important. Also, the color consistency is important because people respond well to that and they remember your colors and logos. Great article….I really enjoyed it and totally agree with every point.
