Everyone knows how to write a blog post… Right? Wrong! I had a coaching call once where I was taught how to write a blog post. These 7 ways I am going to be sharing with you today will help you to write more compelling blog posts that attract people and get them to share it on their social media networks.

How To Write A Blog Post – Headlines

#1 – Come up with attractive headlines. Headlines are what people read first when they land on your blog or when they find your site on the search engines. Titles that attract people the most are “How To-s” and headlines that have numbers in them such as “5 Deadly Mistakes That Could End Up Getting You Ignored In Social Media.” This is also one of my blog posts that I wrote about a year ago that still gets shares online and people coming to my site. Wonder why?

#2 – Have images in your blog posts! I have gone on to sites where people do not put images. This makes your post all text and tends to chase away the reader as they lose their attention as though they are reading a textbook.

Another advantage of have images in your blog posts is the alt tag function. If you want to rank well in the search engines, you want to insert images with your keywords as the alt tags as this gives you a lot more points and credibility with them. So make sure you have images.

#3 – Variety is also important. You want your blog to have a variety instead of just having you and your blog posts all the time. You can have guest bloggers, videos, podcasts – Play around and add some YouTube videos for fun. These are just a bunch of ways to make your blog seem more exciting to your reader.

#4 – Come up with Controversial content. Do it once in a while, and not all the time. Coming up with content that gets people agitated or emotional would be a good thing as this would get them to comment on your blog, and even contact you as they view you as being a leader and having your “own opinions”. So many people are being followers today, that they forget it is all about leadership and that is what people are looking for out there!

#5 – Provide valuable content that will help people. Don’t come up with content for the sake of getting people to click your link or to buy something from you. If you create content that is informational and helps someone out there, they will share that and it will go viral. That will help you generate more visitors for your blog and eventually more leads. Remember here, Content is King!

#6 – Keep your content as concise as possible. Don’t beat about the bush, all of us have ADD in this day and age. State your point, give an example, and close on it. People don’t want to read posts that a too long, so do your best to keep it short, but not too short.

#7 – Give a Call to Action. The purpose of getting a blog is to attract leads and people to follow you at the end of the day. Make sure you have a call to action at the end of your blog post such as “Sign up for my mailing list” if you want to be updated or “Buy now”. Most people do not do a call to action in their content and lose out on potential leads. Remember this, people like being told what to do.
