It is very important to learn how to improve blog readability for several reasons, one of which as I mentioned earlier, gets people coming back to your blog to read your content, others include improving their time on your site. How To Improve Blog Readability

How To Improve Blog Readability – 6 Easy Steps

1. Simple English. The more basic your language is, the higher the chances of your content appealing to a larger audience. This is a plus point for anyone who almost failed English in school because it doesn’t really matter – Your purpose is to get your content out in a manner that people can understand. You can search for “Blog Readability Test” on Google to see what level your content is – Remember, the more basic level you can achieve, the more it is going to appeal to your readers.

2. Paragraphs. Now this may sound simple, but I have visited several blogs where people chunk all their information together into 1 whole paragraph. Can you imagine reading a blog post of 500 – 700 words with no gaps in between? It is not only difficult to read, but it also makes it difficult for the reader to follow. This gets me lost some times and I have to figure out where did I read until.

3. Headings / Points. Having your content sorted out with headings or points help your readers to understand the main point you are trying to bring across. This can also be done by emphasizing on certain text on your content. For example, this blog post right here makes it easy for my readers to understand how to improve blog readability by reading (1) the numbered point and (2) the bolded text. So make sure you have some way to make your content easy for your readers to digest.

4. Pictures / Videos. How do pictures or videos help improve blog readability on your site right? It helps the eyes take a short break in between your content instead of just seeing a stream of text. Text and videos not only help your readers to have a short “break” but it also helps to improve time on site as they would click and watch your video, which will keep them engaged and staying on your site longer.

5. Adjusting Your Blog Settings. This is a very important point to note too. If you want to learn how to improve blog readability, then it is important to adjust your blog settings so that you do not have too many posts loading on your main page. You can do so by following these instructions:

  • Select the “Settings” header inside your WordPress blog
  • Next, select “Reading”
  • Under “Blog pages show at most X posts”, adjust X to a reasonable number. My current settings have been set to show 5 blog posts.

By having a few posts showing on one page, it will also help to improve your blog load timing and not result in people closing the window because of that. Do note that most people close web pages if they take longer than 3 seconds to load and having a ton of blog posts showing on your main page will increase that time to load.

6. Using Categories and Tags. It is also important to categorize your content so that visitors are able to find posts on their topic of interests when they come on to your site and this helps to increase the relevancy to your audience. Categories and tags also help to improve your SEO linkbuilding efforts over time as these category pages contain more content over time.

So that’s all I have on how to improve blog readability for your site and how it can help you to get more return visitors and increase your visitors’ time on site. If you found this post on how to improve blog readability useful, please be sure to help share it with your friends.
